H3 SCIO Sensor Q&A
2 Feb 2026
1. Do I need to calibrate the device?
The device has already gone through a calibration as part of the manufacturing process so the calibration on the device itself cannot be edited by the operator. However, if you want to offset the SCiO moisture/protein/oil etc., see section 5.8 in the H3 Mirus manual: SCiO Offset Recalibration.) If you believe that your SCiO sensor is not measuring accurately, please reach out to our support team: hmtechsupport@junipersys.com.
2. How often should I perform a self test?
For optimal system performance and to ensure proper calibration, HarvestMaster recommends performing a self-test at least once per year. This test may also be conducted at any time during the season if you suspect the sensor is not functioning as expected. Detailed instructions for completing a self-test are provided in Section 4.4 of the H3 Mirus Manual: SCIO NIR Sensor Self-Test.
3. Does the dome getting dusty affect the readings or performance?
A light coating of dry dirt, dust, or other non-crop material will not significantly impact the device’s readings or overall performance. However, if the material becomes wet, accumulates heavily, or obscures a substantial portion of the dome, performance degradation may occur. When harvesting in such conditions, HarvestMaster recommends periodically cleaning or wiping the dome to maintain consistent measurement quality. Clean the SCiO Sensor’s glass dome using a standard glass cleaner and a non-abrasive microfiber cloth.
4. I suspect that the dome has been physically damaged. What should I do?
If there has been any physical damage to the device itself it will need to be shipped back to HarvestMaster for analysis and processed as a repair or replacement. Please reach out to our support team: hmtechsupport@junipersys.com.
5. What do I need to do to make sure I have the most recent calibration models?
Before each harvest season, SCiO releases its annual updates for models that have been in development. If you require a specific applet or model that is not currently available to you—and you hold a Premium license—please contact HarvestMaster to request access. The latest version of the requested model will be included in a new software build and provided to you as soon as possible.
